Law Offices Skinitis was set up in May 2006 in Piraeus.
The location for the firm was selected on the basis that, in today’s commercial world, Piraeus has become a central hub for those involved in the shipping industry.
The port of Piraeus not only acts as a practical nexus for the eastern and western trade routes that service continental Europe, but also as the headquarters for the management and support of one of the largest fleets in the world. As Piraeus continues to grow as a shipping centre throughout the 21st century, so too will the infrastructure of the service industry that is necessary to maintain the fleets and promote their expansion. With this in mind, the firm has located itself in the centre of Piraeus, and made a long term commitment to providing legal services to the ever-growing shipping community.
The firm’s “on the spot” location, on the historic Akti Miaouli means that our bi-lingual team can deal with our local clients’ needs and demands immediately as neither language barriers or distance are an obstacle. As regards our overseas clients, the geographical location of Greece means that continental Europe, the Far East, and the United States can be reached within a 10-hour flight time. Notwithstanding that, the firm is fully equipped with the latest telecommunication technologies so as to enable overseas client contact with ease and alacrity.
Both international and local clients can expect round the clock assistance and objective legal advice coupled with commercial sensibility that is tailored to each specific case. The firm’s philosophy from the outset has been that litigation and/or arbitration are not always the appropriate solution to a dispute. These remedies should always be considered as a last resort, particularly in light of the fact that the world’s shipping community is a close knit collection of individuals who continually work together over long periods of time.
The firm strongly promotes the attitude that, when beneficial and appropriate, clients take the time to consider all the amicable and non-confrontational avenues that are available to them when it comes to resolving disputes. By exploring these avenues, the possibilities that a client will avoid the costs and expenses incurred by litigation and/or arbitration improve vastly.
Developing long lasting relationships with clients is the firms core principal. In this way, both the lawyers at the firm and the executives in its clients’ organizations can learn and gain experience from each other thereby improving their professional skills and strengthening their mutual confidence in each other. The firm’s belief is that its task is not only to assist the client and handle a dispute on their behalf, but also to educate the client in relation to the field of claims and dispute resolution. This way the client becomes an experienced litigant, and at the outset of future disputes the client will be able to assess a situation with greater insight and react independently, without the need for an immediate referral to a solicitor thereby saving costs.
